Ben Askren says he is embarrassed after the knockout suffered by Jake Paul: 'I let the world down'

The tough defeat suffered by Ben Askren against youtuber Jake Paul It will certainly give something to talk about. Knocked out in the first round in the boxing superfight held this Saturday (17), the former UFC fighter spoke for the first time after the massacre he suffered over the weekend. In a press conference after the show, the veteran lamented the performance below expectations and apologized to the fans.

“I was knocked out by Jake Paul. It's shameful. I let the whole world down. People hate the Jake Paul. The fans wanted to see me humiliating him and I didn't do that”, admitted Ben.

Showing little familiarity with the 'noble art', Askren denied any possibility of having been careless in his training for the confrontation. According to the former Bellator and ONE Championship champion, the clash was more than a simple exhibition fight.

“I fought as best I could. My training was good, considering that I was sitting on the couch for a year and a half. I was offered the fight, I accepted and started training immediately. I got in the best shape possible, I took it seriously. I have no excuses”, said the veteran.

Famous for his excellence in grappling, Ben had not performed since his defeat to Demian Maia, by UFC, in 2019. After the setback for the Brazilian, the 35-year-old North American confirmed his retirement from MMA, but agreed to return to action for the superfight against youtuber.

The confrontation against Jake marked Ben's boxing debut. The digital influencer, in turn, achieved his third consecutive triumph in the sport. Paul doesn't know what it's like to lose in the 'noble art'.
