In the process of gaining muscle mass for his long-awaited debut in the UFC heavyweight division (up to 120,2kg), Jon Jones surprised by revealing the final objective in the physical stage. Working to gain muscle mass, the North American admitted that the plan is to become an imposing athlete, similar to Francis Ngannou, current champion in the company. The statement was made to the 'Fight Hype'.

“At the moment, we are just training, focusing on the things we can control, which is getting in the best physical shape. People want to see two titans. Francis is already one and I'm trying to become one. I want to look like a titan. I want to be the same size as him (Ngannou), if not bigger. We have a lot of work to do”, revealed the American.

Even focused on the new project, Jones is going through a moment of doubts within the organization. The athlete went on a warpath with Ultimate after being provoked by Dana White, who suggested that 'Bones' should fear the Franco-Cameroonian. Furthermore, the agent admitted the possibility of Derrick Lewis take the lead and face the 'giant' for the belt. None of this, however, appears to have shaken Jon's recent optimism.

“I think (the confrontation) will happen. I think eventually the UFC will do the right thing. It's one of the biggest fights of our generation and it would be sad if it didn't happen. It would be a great tragedy if they didn’t promote it,” Jon said.

Although the French-Cameroonian is Jon's favorite opponent for his heavyweight debut, the athlete admits that facing the 'giant' is not his only objective. For 'Bones', the career plan goes beyond a super fight against Francis.

“There is no 'plan b'. Can I fight Francis or Derrick Lewis by the belt. My goal is to become heavyweight champion. The opponent doesn’t matter,” he concluded.

Absolute light heavyweight legend (up to 93kg), Jon hasn't performed since February 2020. In his last fight, the American defeated Dominick reyes in the duel that marked his farewell to the division. Months later, the fighter gave up his old belt and began to dedicate himself to preparing for the top group.
