The fight against the North American marked the second meeting between the combatants. In the first clash, in 2018, the Brazilian emerged victorious, but ended up having a balanced fight, winning on points. More than two years later, the native of Rio Grande do Norte proved that, despite dominating the category, he continues to evolve in his technique.

To guarantee the rematch against Pitbull, Emmanuel needed to guarantee three positive results in a row. The athlete's last triumph had taken place in November 2020, when he overcame Daniel weichel.
