Rising star at lightweight, Beneil Dariush celebrates chance to face Tony Ferguson

Ninth place in the lightweight rankings, Iranian predicts fight scheduled for UFC 262

Coming from six straight victories, the lightweight (up to 70,3kg.) Beneil Dariush approaches his main opportunity in Ultimate. The Iranian faces the former holder of the division's interim belt, Tony Ferguson, UFC 262 on May 15th. Now, the fighter says he is excited about the possibility of winning and is projecting the fight.

“I’ll tell you the same thing I told everyone else. The goal is to deceive Tony Ferguson, so let's see what happens. You never know what he's going to do. If that's not exciting, I don't know what is. You prepare for the best, but you don't know what he's going to do”, said Dariush in an interview with the website 'South China Morning Post'.

Ferguson's variety of shots makes Beneil prioritize thorough training. According to the fighter, he is preparing to face one of the 'most savage' fighters in the category.

“It makes training very difficult for him as well. Because, he doesn't imagine how I'm going to get in or how I'm going to concentrate. I'm enjoying this. It’s a freedom I haven’t felt in a while”, added the fighter.

At 31, Beneil Dariush occupies the ninth division in the lightweight division. Currently, the Iranian has a record of 20 wins, four setbacks and one draw. In his last fight, he beat the Brazilian Diego Ferreira by split decision, in the UFC Las Vegas 18.
