Robert Whitakker shows confidence for the duel against Kelvin Gastelum: 'I'm going to be too much for him'

In search of another title fight, former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) is convinced that he will win the commitment on April 17th

With just over two weeks left until the duel against Kelvin Gastelum, Robert whittaker shows a lot of confidence in his victory. The former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) stated that he is more of a fighter than his opponent and that his rival will see the 'best version' of him inside the Octagon. The statement was given in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

“I think I'm going to be too much for him. My stroke is very clean and fast. I have many weapons. Gastelum might try to take me down a few times. But I think this will be worse for him, as it is a five-round fight and this could end up tiring him out”, declared Whittaker.

Showing that he is excited for the duel, Robert made a prediction about when he will win the fight. 'The Reaper' also stated that he is in a great moment and that this will pose problems inside the Octagon for Gastelum.

“I think I'll beat him in the second round. All I know is that I'm going into this fight the best Whittaker I've ever been. I'm going into this fight very happy and a satisfied Robert, it becomes very dangerous”, declared the former middleweight leader.

With a record of 22 wins and five losses, Robert Whitakker is currently number one in the division. The New Zealander is coming off two consecutive victories and if he is successful against Gastelum, he could have another chance to fight for the middleweight belt. His last setback was in UFC 243, in October 2019, when he was dethroned by Israel adesanya.

replacing Paulo borrachinha, who was removed from the fight due to severe flu, Kelvin Gastelum seeks to stay on the winning path, to return to the top of the division. After three consecutive defeats, the middleweight won Ian Heinisch, UFC 258, in February of this year. Rafael Cordeiro's pupil occupies eighth place in the ranking of the category.
