Considered one of those responsible for the growth of Ultimate in the late 90s and former light heavyweight (up to 93kg) and heavyweight (up to 120,2kg) champion, Randy Couture knows what Jon Jones is going on at the moment. By making his transition in the same way, the North American suggests that 'Bones' will face stronger fighters and is interested to see his compatriot's transition into his new category.

“I will be interested in seeing (Jon Jones in heavyweights). He's a big, tall guy. I think he's taller than me. He certainly has the build to show off the dough and, technically, he's as good as anyone. It will be interesting to see how he will deal with bigger and stronger guys, because that is a challenge. You have to approach them differently. You don't want to come face to face with a guy that big and strong,” said Couture in an interview with 'MMA fighting'.

In Ultimate, Randy Couture marked an era by moving between two different divisions and was only matched by another fighter in 2018, when Daniel Cormier became champion of both categories. As time passed, other fighters made the transition, and for the 'Natural', is a normal and common movement nowadays.

“I think it’s a natural tendency. We've seen this in boxing for a long time. Guys moving up or down weight classes to get a specific fight or to win multiple titles. I don't think it's more or less significant. I think those guys who have the ability to go down or up a weight and do that. It's a normal thing. We, as athletes, want to be the best and be considered the best”, added the former fighter.
