Gold medalist at the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro in September, Luciano Corrêa won the bronze medal at the Jigoro Kano Cup in the under-100 kg category. The competition held in Japan serves as preparation for the Olympic selection competition that will define the Brazilian representatives in Beijing-2008.
This is Brazil's second medal in the current edition of the Jigoro Kano Cup. On Saturday, Pedro Guedes, a newcomer to the team, had also won bronze in the lightweight category (up to 73 kg). Since 1996, Brazil has not won a medal in the competition in Japan.
Another Brazilian who competed this Sunday, João Gabriel Schlitter, lost the fight for bronze and finished in fourth place in the over 100 kg category.
