Even though he was released by the UFC in early March, junior gypsy continues to seek justice. Trying to cancel the knockout suffered by Ciryl Gane in December 2020, in which the Brazilian accuses his rival of having come closer to victory with an illegal elbow, the heavyweight (up to 120,2kg.) appealed to the Nevada Athletic Commission to reevaluate the case. According to the North American website, the entity is seeking more information for the resource created in January. The fighter's lawyer, Ana Guedes, then sent a new document on March 17, weeks after the former champion's dismissal.
According to the defense of the Santa Catarina native, the referee of the confrontation, Jerin Valel, was decisive in the outcome of the duel. According to Ana, the illegal blow – according to the athlete – was seen by the conductor of the confrontation and a penalty should have been given against the Frenchman. The action was not taken and, after a sequence of attacks launched against Ciryl, the knockout ended up being consolidated.
To reinforce the argument, Guedes sent a letter to the Commission explaining the regulations foreseen for official fights. In it, the document states that the back of the neck – the region where the defense accuses the attack of being involved – is a risk point and therefore attacks of this nature are prohibited. Along with the text, images were attached showing the moment of the blow delivered by the Frenchman.
The confrontation between Júnior and Gane ended up marking the farewell of the former UFC heavyweight champion. Cigano, who was coming off three consecutive defeats, could not resist yet another negative result and was fired from the company, which he had defended since 2008.
