“I asked for a little more than what was in my contract. I wasn't going to show up for a regular salary to face that guy. For me to be able to fight at my best, I need adequate preparation. So, this fight would never happen, unless the UFC was going to pay well for it”, declared ‘Chaos'.
The welterweight also said that the Ultimate ‘boss’ didn’t react very well to his refusal. However, Colby seemed not to care about the agent's reaction and stated that he deserved to be in this position of being able to refuse certain fights.
“I think Dana didn’t like it very much (the refusal). He just said ‘ok’ and just hung up. I'm not in this business to do charity. I deserve what I got. Look at my record. I defeated former champions, I defeated great athletes. I'm in the biggest fights, the biggest sales. I’m the company’s biggest attraction,” added Covington.
With a current record of 16 wins and two losses, Colby covington became interim welterweight champion after winning Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 225, in June 2018.
