Even living in the United States and married to an American, Amanda nunes makes a point of remembering its roots. At the press conference after the UFC 259, after running over Megan anderson and maintain the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.), the Brazilian was questioned about a possible 'loss of identity' after living outside Tupiniquim territory for so long. The 'Lioness' then ruled out talking about the subject and reinforced her nationality.

“I am already the face of MMA in Brazil. I am Brazilian! I have my Brazilian blood. I left Brazil because I wanted something better for my life and I knew that here in the United States I would get it faster, with more help, more sponsorship, more everything. But I continue to be Brazilian, I continue to bear the name of Brazil, I never changed anything in the UFC, despite having my roles here in America”, stated Amanda.
The two-division UFC champion (featherweight and bantamweight) said she never thought about changing her citizenship and that she will always defend the flag of her home country.
“I never changed anything, I never had this thought that one day I would become a citizen and want to change the country that I represent in the UFC. I will always carry the name of Brazil. If they don’t consider me the face of MMA in Brazil just because I live here in the USA, there’s something wrong there”, concluded Nunes.
With the victory over Megan anderson last Saturday (6), Amanda reached 12 consecutive victories and further established herself as the best woman in the history of the sport. His last defeat was to Zingano cat, at UFC 172, in September 2014.
