After praise from Khabib, Makhachev says he is ready to continue his legacy at lightweight: 'He has already shown me the way'

Light weight (up to 70,3kg.) Islam makhachev don't mind being compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Appointed by the current champion and training partner as his replacement, the Russian claims that the similarities in his game help him follow the same path as his compatriot.

“I like that, because Khabib is a very good guy, a champion, so I don't care about comparisons. This is motivation, because now people talk about me. A lot of people tell me: ‘You’re going to be the next champion’. So I have to keep working,” Makhachev said in half day do UFC 259.

Before thinking about fighting for the lightweight belt, Islam makhachev must go through Drew dober, in combat that takes place in the UFC 259 this Saturday (6). The Russian, however, reveals that he is ready to continue his streak of six victories and still wants 'one or two fights' before the title.

“(Khabib) showed me all the way. He showed me what I must do to be there. Now I have a good winning streak and I just have to finish the next opponent. Who knows, maybe in one or two fights I will be the next champion”, concluded the Russian.

At 29, Islam makhachev occupies 14th place in the lightweight division and is coming off a victory against the Brazilian Davi ramos, UFC 242, in the unanimous decision of the judges. In his career, he has a record of 18 triumphs and one setback.
