One of the Brazilian favorites in Ultimate will be back in the octagon this Saturday (6). For the UFC 259, Thiago Marreta will exchange forces against the dangerous Aleksandar Rakic and, depending on coach Conan Silveira, the Tupiniquim fans will have a lot to celebrate. In an exclusive interview with SUPER LUTAS YouTube channel, the coach of American Top Team (ATT) analyzed the duel.

This weekend, Thiago will once again put himself to the test against an elite light heavyweight opponent (up to 93kg). One of the men who came close to winning Jon Jones, however, has two negative results in a row. Conan then treated the Brazilian's moment as normal in sport and explained the idea.
“In general, when you choose to be a professional fighter and reach a certain level – such as the level of Marreta, Glover (Teixeira) or Amanda (Nunes) -, you have to be aware that there will be 'struggles', things that you won't be able to digest, but that can't stop you. Your goal has to be bigger than the situation itself”, said the coach.
Thinking about the commitment in UFC 259, Silveira analyzed the duel between the fighter from Cidade de Deus (RJ) and Aleksandar rakic, who is looking to reach the top 5. Without belittling the Austrian, the coach projected the outcome of the confrontation.
“It’s going to be a fight that’s not about who’s going to do more. That's who will make the least mistakes. Anyone who misses half a second, half a centimeter, will have a problem. (…) Marreta prepared very well. All the adjustments, that dust from that time he didn't fight, from the loss to Glover, everything was adjusted. A Muppet will come prepared for five rounds, even though he fights three”, he concluded.
Thiago has not appeared since his appointment against Glover Teixeira, in December 2020. At the time, the Brazilian returned to active duty after more than a year away from the sport due to two serious knee injuries. Against the Minas Gerais native, Marreta had good moments, but ended up submitting in the third round.
Today, the Brazilian occupies second place in the ranking of the category led by Jan Blachowicz. Rakic is fourth.
