After the 'bomb' dropped by Khamzat Shimaev, who announced his early retirement from MMA due to complications with Covid-19, UFC president Dana White had to go public to talk about the matter. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', the agent explained about the Swede's real condition and reassured fans about his pupil's decision. The 'big boss' guaranteed that the fighter will continue to perform.

“When he arrived here (in the United States), the doctors took care of him. They prescribed prednisone, which is a really strong steroid. After taking (the medicine), he would need to relax, let his body recover. He went to training today, felt like crap, got emotional and published it,” said White.

Betting on the athlete, whom he already called a 'phenomenon' at the end of 2020, Dana guaranteed that Khamzat will not abandon the sport. The athlete, however, must follow the treatment he underwent, as the recovery did not happen the way they expected.

“He shouldn't be training, but you know this guy is a savage. He wants to fight every week and now he can't even train. He just got emotional, but he’s not retiring”, said the agent.

Considered a great promise for the future of MMA, Chimaev was diagnosed with Covid-19 at the end of December. The disease ended up forcing yet another postponement of his fight against Leon edwards, which would take place in January.

With consequences, Khamzat ended up officially withdrawing from the clash against the Englishman, which had been transferred to March. Now, there are no predictions about when the 26-year-old will be able to resume his normal activities.
