Former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg) and current PFL contract (Professional Fighters League), Fabricio Werdum recalled the title loss against Stipe Miocic, at UFC 198, which took place at Arena da Baixada, in Curitiba. The Brazilian claims that, at the time, he hoped for an immediate rematch.

“(Stipe) Miocic put me to sleep with a punch that stuck. I prefer a fight that (goes) to the end, even if I lose by a small detail, but knowing that it was a war. But not like this. I think I deserved a rematch. After everything I had done – six consecutive wins – and (the UFC) didn't even consider it. If it's that fight where the guy hit you and broke you, you have nothing to say. But when it's like that, with just one punch, there has to be a rematch”, revealed Werdum in an interview with the channel 'Rafi Bastos', by presenter and comedian Rafinha Bastos.
The former heavyweight champion also said that the atmosphere in Curitiba took away his concentration and, consequently, harmed his title defense performance.
“I lost myself completely. I wasn't focused on the fight. I wanted the fans to come, my mother went for the first time and the day before I was having lunch with 40/50 people. It wasn't the time. I had to focus 100% there and I ended up forgetting about the fight. (…), I had 50 thousand masks made with 'Happy face' (Werdum's trademark) and my concern was the public. But I wasn’t in the fight”, added the fighter.
Newly hired from PFL, Fabricio Werdum is confirmed in the heavyweight tournament, held by the organization. If he wins four matches, the Brazilian will take home a prize of US$ 1 million (around R$ 5,4 million), in addition to the presentation scholarship. At 43 years old, he has 34 fights as a professional in MMA. The veteran has 24 wins, nine losses and one draw.
