Businessman confirms contract renewal between Edson Barboza and UFC

Brazilian highlight in the organization, Brazilian will remain linked to Ultimate for the next few years

End of the mystery. Edson Barboza, who only had one more fight left on his UFC contract, will remain in the organization. According to the fighter's manager, Alex Davis, the Brazilian reached an agreement with the company and will continue wearing the company's gloves. In an interview with 'MMA fighting', the agent spoke about the arrangement.

“The UFC chose to renew Barboza, keep him as an employee and leave him active. Edson and I believe he has what he needs to fight for the belt and become champion. That’s the focus,” said Alex.

A feared name in the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg) in recent years, Barboza, today, operates among the featherweight divisions (up to 65,7kg) in the company. Today, the Friburguense occupies 14th position in the ranking led by Alexander Volkanovsky.

Recently, the Brazilian had spoken about his current situation at the company. At the time, the fighter confirmed that he had one more fight in his contract and even complained about the lack of fights made available by the UFC. In the same statement, Edson had not made it clear whether he would continue in Ultimate.

Barboza has not performed since October 2020, when he crashed mawan amirkhani. The triumph marked Edson's first positive result since moving to featherweight. Before, the combatant had lost to Dan Ige, in confrontation with a controversial decision.

In November last season, Edson completed 10 years in Ultimate. At 35 years old, today, the fighter has 21 wins and nine losses as a professional in MMA.
