In addition to adding another knockout and earning one of the performance bonuses in the UFC Las Vegas 19, Derrick Lewis continues to reap the fruits of victory over Curtis blaydes. One of the great highlights of the heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) of Ultimate, the 'giant' jumped in the group's ranking and now occupies second position in the category led by Stipe Miocic.

Now, the 'giant' finds himself in an even more prominent position within the category led by Miocic. Ahead of the North American, only Francis Ngannou and the current champion.

Next challenger?

Even with the next title fight confirmed – in UFC 260, when Stipe defends his position against Francis -, Derrick should not receive a chance for the belt in 2021. Even second in the group, the athlete will have to wait for Jon Jones, who will debut in the division this season.

Ultimate president Dana White recently admitted that 'Bones' will debut at heavyweight facing the winner Miocic and Ngannou. The expectation is that the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) will perform in the North American summer, which takes place between June and September.

Can fall

Even though he assumes an even more prominent position within the category, Lewis' situation could change after this weekend. This because Jairzinho Rozenstruik, overtaken by the North American, will face the promising Cyryl Gane, in the main fight of the UFC Las Vegas 20. If he surpasses the Frenchman, the Surinamese could compete directly for the position with Lewis.
