The main fight of UFC 156, a show that takes place on February 2nd in Las Vegas, already has its referee defined. The Nevada Athletic Commission, the entity that sanctions the event, chose the controversial Steve Mazzagatti to mediate the duel between the Brazilian José Aldo and the North American Frankie Edgar, for the organization's featherweight belt.
Mazzagatti has already received several criticisms from Dana White, president of the UFC, for his performances in the Octagon. But, at events in the United States, the organization does not have the power to block judges. The other candidates to mediate the fights were Herb Dean and Yves Lavigne, who will also act at UFC 156.
If the fight is not decided within the regulatory 25 minutes, the judges to evaluate the fight valid for the belt will be: Adelaide Byrd, Jeff Collins and Junichiro Kamijo,
