Former Bellator champion arrested after allegedly stabbing ex-partner

Former owner of the Bellator featherweight (up to 65,7kg) belt, Daniel Straus was arrested in Florida (USA), accused of attacking and stabbing his ex-partner, with whom he had an on-and-off relationship. The incident would have happened in January this year. The athlete remains detained by the Hollywood Police and has bail set at US$100 (around R$537). In a statement released by 'MMA Junkie', the alleged victim narrated the episode.

According to the woman, the nightmare began on January 21st. At the time, Daniel had gone to work after an argument over cell phone messages. The ex-partner then tried to escape the scene, but was followed by the fighter, who allegedly attacked her in the vehicle. To maintain her physical integrity, the alleged victim would have abandoned the car and fled on foot, but was followed and, when trying to return to the car, was attacked again until she fell.

According to the report, after the sequence of attacks, Straus fled to the woman's apartment and called her from there. Fearing damage to her property, the former partner went to the scene.

At home, the alleged victim said that the fighter had threatened to cut her with an object. When questioning Daniel about 'what would happen', the athlete struck him in the abdomen, even opening a cut. The woman, however, was unable to confirm whether the piece used to cut was a knife.

According to the ex-partner, even after the attack with the sharp object, Straus followed her for a while, but she managed to get away and had the help of neighbors. After the nightmare, the woman had to be taken to the hospital to undergo sutures. The alleged victim still had a large swelling in his right eye.

At 36 years old, Daniel performed professionally in MMA between 2009 and 2019. The fighter has 35 commitments, with 26 wins and nine losses.

Straus faced, twice, Patrick Pitbull. In 2015, the North American took the featherweight belt from the Brazilian, but the native of Rio Grande do Norte regained the position in 2017.
