One of the big names in the light heavyweight division of Ultimate (up to 93kg.), Glover Teixeira will not be completely left out of the UFC 259, which takes place on March 6, in Las Vegas (USA). Candidate for a future fight for the category belt, the Brazilian confirmed that he will be the immediate reserve for the confrontation between Jan Blachowicz e Israel adesanya. “I will be the substitute. I’ll have to go there and make the weight (93kg.)”, revealed the athlete to the North American website.
Current number one in the category's ranking and in one of the best phases of his career, Glover applied for a title shot when he crashed Thiago Marreta, in November. The undisputed triumph of the Minas Gerais native over his compatriot caught the attention of the current group champion, Blachowicz, who accepted the Brazilian's challenge.
Despite also being recognized by UFC president, Dana White, as a name to fight for the belt, the 'big boss' plans were different. The president chose to promote the confrontation between Jan and the middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg), Israel adesanya, postponing Teixeira's dreams.
At 41 years old, Glover has 39 appearances as a professional in MMA, with 32 wins and seven losses. For Ultimate, the Brazilian has five positive results in a row.
