After running over Frankie Edgar, Cory Sandhagen sees a bantamweight belt fight as mandatory

Current number two in the rankings, the North American justifies why he deserves to fight for the title, after a big victory at UFC Las Vegas 18

One of the great highlights in UFC Las Vegas 18, held last Saturday (6), in the United States, Cory Sandhagen may have stamped his passport for his dream of a bantamweight belt fight (up to 61,2kg). After running over the veteran Frankie Edgar, the American hopes to have convinced the organization that he deserves to face the belt. In a press conference after the show, he spoke about the subject.

“I'm a different 'monster' than when I faced aljamain sterling. He taught me some lessons. I know (Petr) Yan has been talking about facing TJ (Dillashaw) after (fighting Sterling), if he wins the fight. This is rubbish to me”, Cory fumed.

Current number two in the rankings, Sandhagen believes he has done enough to guarantee himself as the group's main challenger. Before overcoming Edgar, the athlete had brutalized Marlon moraes and, consequently, reached the top 5.

“Face me. I'm the toughest compared to Aljamain. If Aljamain wins, I owe him a 'nap'. He's going to win one. The winner of these two will be knocked out by me in July”, said the fighter.

Yan and Sterling are confirmed as one of the protagonists of the UFC 259, which takes place on March 6th. The confrontation will mark the Russian's first title defense, who won the position in the clash against José Aldo, in July 2020.
