Judo: Eduardo Santos fights well, but is left without a medal in Beijing

Brazilian highlight of the day in Judo competitions at the Beijing Olympic Games, Eduardo Santos was surprisingly left out of the medal race. After a beautiful start to the tournament, where he won two consecutive ippons over the Chinese Yanzhou He and then over the Venezuelan José Camacho, the Brazilian stopped in the quarter-finals, defeated by the Frenchman Yves-Matthieu Dafreville. Eduardo even applied a yuko to the Frenchman, but it was removed by the side judges and he ended up defeated by immobilization at the end of the fight.

In the dispute for the bronze medal, Eduardo got past the strong Italian Roberto Meloni, winning the right to compete in the repechage final.

In the final dispute, which gave him the right to fight for bronze, in a very balanced fight the Brazilian ended up defeated by the Swiss Sergei Aschwanden by the judges' decision, at the checkered flag.
