Karol Rosa and Lara Procópio do well and win on the UFC Las Vegas 18 preliminary card

First Brazilians in the octagon this weekend, fighters beat Joselyne Edwards and Molly McCann, respectively, by points

Brazil started off on the right foot UFC Las Vegas 18, held this Saturday (6), in the United States. With two representatives, the country had 100%, in the preliminary card, with the victories of Karol Rosa and Lara Procópio. The two fighters won their commitments by unanimous decision from the judges.

In the confrontation against the Panamanian Joselyne Edwards, the Brazilian did not have an easy life, but she knew how to control her actions and emerged victorious in the unanimous decision of the judges.

In the first round, the Espírito Santo made it clear that her strategy would be to take the fight to the ground. In the opening seconds, the Brazilian took down her rival and dominated for a good part of the stage. Edwards, however, managed to explode in the final moments, got up and started exchanging good blows with Rosa, but there was no more time.

In the second stage, the Brazilian, at times, took risks and accepted the frank exchange against the Panamanian coached by Rafael Cordeiro. At times at a disadvantage, Karol took down again and controlled intelligently until the end of the assault.

The final round was largely dominated by the Brazilian, who gave Edwards no chance, once again taking the duel to the ground, dominating until the end without any fear.

With the result, Rosa scores her third positive result in a row and approaches the top 15 of the group led by Amanda nunes. Karol doesn't know what he's missing for four commitments.

Acting in flyweight (up to 56,7kg), Lara Procópio was scared, but overcame the difficulties in the fight against Molly McCann. Acting intelligently, the Minas Gerais native used her technique on the ground to dominate her rival for two rounds and leave the octagon with a points victory (unanimous decision).

In the first round, Procópio followed the proposed strategy and dominated his opponent for almost five minutes. The second stage ended up being a nightmare for the Brazilian in the final minutes, as the Englishwoman almost surprised the Minas Gerais native with an armbar in place. Lara, however, showed calm and managed to get out of the position.

In the last round, the Brazilian followed coach Dedé Pederneiras' instructions and fought safely. Early on, Lara took the fight to the ground and dominated the rest of the fight, almost finishing with a heel hook.

With the result, Procópio achieved his first positive result in two appearances with Ultimate gloves.

After the fight, a disappointed McCann left her gloves in the Octagon, suggesting retirement. The setback for the Minas Gerais native marked the second negative result in a row for the Englishwoman.

In the meeting between Seungwoo Choi and Youssef Zalal, valid in the featherweight division, spectators watched one of the most balanced clashes on the preliminary card. However, the South Korean managed to complete the best actions and ended up winning on points.

With the result, Seungwoo breathes a sigh of relief in Ultimate. Even though he came from a victory, the South Korean lost in his first two appearances with the company's gloves. Now, the fighter has two triumphs and two setbacks in the UFC.

While some celebrate, others mourn. Visibly frustrated after the official announcement of the defeat, Zalal ended up suffering the second consecutive defeat in the organization. The athlete today has three positive results and two negative results in Ultimate.

Featherweight representative (up to 65,7 kg.), Timur Valiev had no difficulties in the confrontation against Martin Day. In a dominant performance, the athlete gave his rival no chance and emerged victorious with the judges' unanimous decision after three rounds.

Debuting for Ultimate in August 2020, Timur ended up with a 'no result fight' on his debut. Almost six months later, then, the triumph. In addition to the victory, Valiev reached the mark of eight appearances without defeat.

Martin Day, who had an obligation to win this weekend, ended up getting into serious trouble in the organization. With the defeat, the North American ended up registering the fourth negative result in a row and is at serious risk of being released by the organization.

In the fight that opened the show, a lightning knockout. In his second appearance in Ultimate, Ode Osbourne achieved the first triumph for the organization and the victory came in an emblematic way. With just 26 seconds, the North American scored a knockout and placed himself as a strong candidate for one of the 'Performance of the Night' bonuses.

At 29 years old, this was Osbourne's 14th appearance since his professional MMA debut. The athlete reached his 10th positive result and, after a great achievement, challenged his brother Deiveson Figueiredo, Francisco, newly arrived at the company.

Defeated by Francisco himself in January, Jerome got into serious trouble within the company with this new setback. The athlete now has three consecutive defeats and could be on the organization's feared layoff list.
