“I enjoyed accumulating some more time inside the famous UFC Octagon. 40 seconds in 3 years is all I had. I was savoring the second round and enjoying my work. A little disciplined in my approach and stance, especially in boxing. That's what I get for choosing this fight and opponent as the precursor to a boxing match against the Pacman (Manny Pacquiao)”, says McGregor, in a post on his official 'Instagram'.
The Irishman also pointed out that the calf kicks applied by Poirier had an impact on the result of the rematch.
“I deserved to have my legs kicked coming in with that thought (based on boxing). This is not a game to play with. In total, there were 18 kicks landed on me, with the last one completely bending my leg, that was it. The peroneal nerve is compromised. Fascinating!”, added the Irishman.
In the publication, Conor praised Poirier's performance and reaffirmed his interest in promoting the trilogy against the fighter.
“Then, a tremendous submission from my opponent, hats off! A well-fought fight for the 'Diamond'. Now it's a trilogy fight! Wow! Exciting! It wasn't a trilogy I was expecting, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't meant to be. This is exactly how it was always meant to be!”, he concluded.
With the defeat, Conor McGregor he dropped two positions in the lightweight rankings and is now sixth. Already Dustin poirier surpassed Justin gaethje and is now first in the division.
