The bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) of Ultimate, Frankie Edgar, believes that a good victory against Cory Sandhagen, could propel him into a division title shot. The fight takes place in UFC Las Vegas 18, next Saturday (6). The former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) occupies fifth place in the category, while his opponent is second.

“For me, the fight could really be to decide who will be the next challenger. He (Sandhagen) is number 2 and I am well behind. Aljamain (Sterling) and Petr yan they've just been booked (for a title fight) – I believe March 6th – so it's perfect timing. We fought a month before these guys”, said Edgar, on the podcast “Real Quick with Mike Swick".
At 39 years old, the North American states that he feels ready for another title fight and believes that his experience will be a predominant factor in the fight.
“The bantamweight division is really hot right now. I have to go out there and do a good performance. I need to finish Cory (Sandhagen) if I want to get that title shot, and that's what I've been working on this whole camp – going there, pressing, making him deflate and showing some experience. I have more experience than anyone in this game. There aren't many fighters older than me in the UFC right now, so I have to use this to my best advantage and make it happen.”
Former lightweight champion and challenger for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg) in the past, Frankie Edgar made his debut in bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) – two categories below the one that made him famous in MMA – in August 2020, at UFC Las Vegas 7. On that occasion, he beat the Brazilian Peter Munhoz in the judges' split decision. Currently, the North American has a record of 24 wins, eight losses and one draw.
