Russian football team tries to sign Khabib for the third division dispute

Willing to keep his word and follow the MMA retirement plan, Khabib Nurmagomedov received a somewhat unusual proposal. A living legend of mixed martial arts, the UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) was invited to join the Russian football team FC Kamaz, which competes in the country's third division.

The invitation was made by the team through their social networks. In the text, the club's advisors try to convince the former fighter – who has already publicly declared his passion for the sport – to join the squad for the season.

“We offer you a place in our team to make your debut in the championship. The PFL is the UFC of football. We play every match just to win and we are a team with the ambitious task of reaching the first division. We have already prepared all the paperwork for your membership. If everything goes well, you just need to enter the start date and sign”, they wrote, in an excerpt translated by 'Combate'.

In addition to the incentive, FC Kamaz marketing released a montage of Khabib's registration letter. The proposal is for Khabib to join the group for a preparation period that runs from February 12th to March 5th.

Considered one of the biggest names in the history of MMA, Nurmagomedov confirmed his early retirement from the sport in October 2020. At the age of 32, the Russian left the sport after beating Justin gaethje and unify the Ultimate lightweight title.

One of the reasons for the decision was the death of the athlete's father, mentor and coach, Abdulmanap, who passed away in early July 2020, a victim of complications from Covid-19. After the personal loss, Khabib promised his mother that he would no longer compete in mixed martial arts.

Earlier this year, an image (see below) of the former fighter scoring a goal in a recreational match went around the world. In the images, the Russian connects with a first-time shot and puts the ball into the opposing goalkeeper's corner.
