Historic. In one of the most anticipated fights of the year, Dustin poirier shocked the world and ran over Conor McGregor in the main clash of UFC 257, held this Saturday (23), in Abu Dhabi. After a slow start, the American recovered and surprised the Irishman with a devastating knockout in the second round.

With the result, Poirier confirmed the good phase of his career and established himself as one of the favorites for the next lightweight title fight (up to 70,3kg). Current number two in the ranking of the group led by Khabib Nurmagomedov, Dustin was the first athlete in history to knock out Conor.
Considered one of the greatest phenomena in the history of MMA, McGregor did not have the return he would have liked. Without fighting since January 2020, the Irishman started the clash well, with precise attacks, and came close to taking down his rival with powerful blows. The 'Notorious', however, felt the weight of Poirier's hands and suffered the fifth setback in his career.
After the confrontation, Conor asked Poirier for a rematch. Even though he lost, Conor received an ovation from the audience in Abu Dhabi.
The fight
The confrontation began with Conor attacking Poirier with a series of straight shots. Cornered, Dustin received attacks from the Irishman, who continued walking upwards. At a disadvantage in striking, the North American attacked the 'Notório' legs and took the duel to the ground. Conor managed to get up and started to press Dustin against the bars. The athletes exchanged blows with their shoulders, while the audience cheered. Poirier managed to free himself, but Conor once again showed superiority on his feet. With a sequence of jabs, the Irishman managed to shake the North American, who began to throw punches into the void. Dustin responded to the attacks with a cross to McGregor's face, but the 'Notorious' remained precise in his attacks. The assault ended with the athletes exchanging blows.
In the second stage, Poirier took the initiative with a low kick, which knocked Conor off balance. The Irishman responded with a series of punches, which landed cleanly on the North American's face. Dustin walked backwards, but Conor continued to chase his opponent around the Octagon. Poirier tried to score with jabs and straight shots, but McGregor continued to respond with more precision and power in his strikes. Halfway through the round, Dustin surprised Conor with a cross, which shook the Irishman. Poirier continued hitting the 'Notório', who collapsed. The North American continued attacking, until the referee interrupted the confrontation.
