Rape trial could result in million-dollar sentence for McGregor in alleged case in Ireland

UFC star once again causes controversy outside the octagon; case would have happened in 2018, in a hotel in the city of Dublin

One of the greatest phenomena in the history of MMA, Conor McGregor it became news again outside of sport. With a return to fighting scheduled for UFC 257, which takes place this Saturday (23), in Abu Dhabi, the 'Notório' could be prosecuted for an alleged case of rape and bodily harm against a woman, in a case that would have happened in Ireland, in 2018. The information was released by the 'The Independent'.

According to the 'ESPN', there are no further details about what happened between Conor and the alleged victim. What is known is that the episode would have happened about two years ago. The lawsuit is filed in Dublin, Ireland.

In an attempt to protect the former featherweight (up to 65,7kg) and lightweight (up to 70,3kg) champion, one of McGregor's representatives, Karen J. Kessler, defended the fighter. To the 'The Independent', the employee denied the accusations about the 'Notorious'.

“Following a thorough investigation carried out by Gardai (the Republic of Ireland's national civilian police force) which, in addition to interviews with the complainant, included interviews with a number of sources, taking statements from witnesses, examining closed circuit footage and the co-operation of Conor McGregor, these allegations were categorically rejected,” he stated.

On Saturday, McGregor returns to Ultimante and resumes his dream of regaining his old lightweight belt. The athlete will face Dustin poirier in the main fight in the event that promises to be one of the biggest of 2021.
