At the post-fight press conference, Holloway stated that he will be ready if he needs to return to action soon. When listing possible opponents in the future, the Hawaiian surprised by mentioning Khabib's name. The duel was scheduled to take place in 2018, but Max suffered complications at the weigh-in and had to withdraw from the card.

“We’ll see what happens, even with Khabib, you know? He's saying he wants a fight that's interesting. (…), we had one of the best press conferences in the world, I think. We just didn't fight. We could do that if he wants,” Holloway said.

The most likely fate, however, is a trilogy against Alexander Volkanovsky, if the Australian wins Brian ortega No. UFC 260, in March. Holloway has already faced the current featherweight champion on two occasions, but ended up defeated by the judges' decisions. He says he does not agree with the results and 'instigates' a new confrontation.

“Volkanovski said – these are his words, not mine – he said he wants a different fight. He doesn't want a tougher fight, guys. He wants a different fight. He didn't say, 'I want a tougher challenge.' He knows who the toughest challenge is. He knows it's me. At the end of the day, I'm not going to force anyone to fight me. I’m going to stay ready and do everything I have to do and just be ready.”

At 29, Max Holloway has a record of 22 wins and six losses. Currently, the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg) occupies first place in the rankings, behind only the belt holder and arch-rival, Alexander Volkanovsky.
