Weili Zhang could defend title against Namajunas or Carla Esparza, at event in Asia

After winning a historic battle against Joanna Jedrzejczyk, UFC 248, Weili Zhang is close to having its new opponent confirmed. Current champion in the strawweight division (up to 52,1kg), the Chinese woman could face Rose namajunas ou Carla esparza – two former owners of the title -, in Asia. The information was released by Dana White.

“We are keeping an eye on her (Zhang). Obviously, everyone wants to see her face Rose (Namajunas). I hope we can do it. If not, the next in line would probably be Carla esparza. We are trying to make this fight this year, in Asia”, said the 'boss'.

Owner of the title since she was defeated Jessica Andrade, 'Bate-Estaca', Weili has already made UFC history by starring in one of the organization's best female fights. Undefeated for 21 fights and more than seven years, the fighter is a strong candidate to consolidate herself as one of the best of her time.

While Zhang prepares for his return, Namajunas wants to confirm his good form after winning the rematch against 'Bate-Estaca', at UFC 251. Also in great form, Esparza has four positive results and hasn't fought since July.

Namajunas held the division belt between 2017 and 2018. Esparza, in turn, won the title in 2014, when he submitted Rose herself.
