Rival of Conor McGregor No. UFC 257, Dustin poirier has bigger dreams than simple revenge against the 'Notório', by whom he was beaten in 2014. Former interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg), the North American guarantees that the Irishman is an important step towards his achievement as a professional in MMA: winning the linear belt.

“It’s not revenge for me. Of course, these things are amazing. I'm going to go there and defeat him. This is part of my timeline, the things I think about and make me happy, but it's not what moves me daily”, said 'Diamante, in an interview with 'This Past Weekend'.

Former owner of the interim lightweight belt, Poirier was close to achieving every fighter's dream, which is to become absolute world champion. The athlete, however, bumped into Khabib Nurmagomedov, being beaten by the Russian in the UFC 242, in a valid fight for title unification. Now, even without a fight for the belt, Dustin knows that a victory over Conor will put him in great condition to duel for the group's throne.

“I'm heading towards my biggest goal: becoming the world champion, being the best. I know that a victory over a guy like that, at this stage of our careers, puts my name in the history books”, he concluded.

Poirier and McGregor faced each other for the first time at UFC 178. At the time, both were playing at featherweight (up to 65.7kg). The confrontation, however, ended tragically for 'Diamante', who was knocked out in the first round.

More than six years later, the athletes cross paths again, but under different conditions. While Conor made history by becoming the first Ultimate fighter to hold two titles simultaneously, Dustin evolved as a fighter and, for years, has remained at the top of one of the organization's most competitive categories.
