Current number three in the lightweight ranking (up to 70,3kg.), Charles of the Bronx denied having been approached by the UFC board to negotiate a possible fight against former interim champion, Justin Gaethje. In conversation with 'Combate', the Brazilian stated that he was not contacted by the company and that he is awaiting the outcome of the conversation initiated by the company's president, Dana White.

“Nothing has come to me so far, I don’t know anything about it. People talk too much. Let's see what happens, everyone is sending this to me, I've seen it several times. So far there is nothing, I spoke to my manager early today and nothing”, said the São Paulo native.

If the confrontation is, in fact, negotiated, the 'marriage' goes against the Bronx's initial desire. After running over Tony Ferguson in December, the fighter stated that he would like to face the winner between Conor McGregor e Dustin poirier, which exchange forces in the UFC 257.

With eight consecutive victories in one of the most competitive categories in Ultimate, Charles gained a prominent place in the group and, today, is considered one of the favorites for a future title fight. The triumph over 'Bicho Papão', in UFC 256, further confirmed the good phase of the São Paulo native, who finally reached the top-5.

While Do Bronx enjoys the good moment, Gaethje tries to recover from the tough defeat he suffered against Khabib Nurmagomedov, in October. At the time, the North American was unable to stand up to the champion and was defeated by submission, losing the chance to unify the group's belt.
