Bisping will fight for the middleweight belt if he beats Belfort in São Paulo

Vitor Belfort Michael Bisping

Michael Bisping was the most popular name to face Anderson Silva in the next defense of the Brazilian's middleweight belt and confirmed expectations without even stepping foot in the Octagon. The Englishman was favored by Tim Boetsch's defeats to Costa Phillipou and, mainly, to Alan belcher for Yushin Okami, at UFC 155. The president of the event, Dana White, confirmed Bisping as the next challenger for the “Spider” and set the condition: a victory on January 19th against Vítor Belfort at UFC on FX 7 – also known as UFC Sao Paulo.

The director also revealed a conversation he had with Alan belcher during the UFC 155 weigh-in. According to White, the fighter had come to him and said: “I'm going to win this fight tomorrow night, and when Belfort gets injured, because you know he will, I'm going to step in and I want this fight with Bisping ”. Belcher's victory did not happen and Michael Bisping, who has five wins in his last six fights, secured himself as next in line for the middleweight belt.
