UFC fighter details training with Chimaev: 'He tore my ear'

Khamzat Shimaev was one of the biggest highlights of the UFC in 2020, with three fights, three quick wins and only two blows received. But the Swede seems to terrify even his training partners. This is because the British fighter Darren stewart, who is also signed to the UFC, talked about a session with the revelation of the welterweights (up to 77.1 kg). at the 'AllStars MMA' gym and guarantees that Chimaev has a performance similar to that presented in the fights.

“I know people say he (Chimaev) didn't fight the best in the division. But look here. The guy took a filling out of my tooth just by touching my neck. He is very technical and very strong. I was training with him and my ear tore. So I had to come and put tape on my head. It was crazy!” he says. Darren stewart in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie.

Asked about the fit between Khamzat Shimaev e Leon edwards, which should take place in early 2021, Stewart says it is an even fight and avoids naming a favorite.

“I’m not saying Leon (Edwards) can’t beat him. We haven't seen him fight people like that and that will be good. Chimaev is not a guy to mess with. I've seen what he does. But it's MMA and anything can happen. So, Leon is a bad man and Khamzat is also a bad man, so it will be a good match. I'm looking forward to it.”

Chimaev gained global notoriety after winning three fights in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The clashes took place in a short space of time and, combined, were completed in 4m38s. Currently, he is ranked 15th in the division and faces Leon Edward, who is third best placed.
