After achieving his second consecutive victory and confirming the good phase of his career, Stephen Thompson is ready to once again face his fellow top 5 welterweights. After dominating and winning Geoff neal No. UFC Las Vegas 17, held last Saturday (19), the North American did not hide his desire to return to the radar for a future title fight and offered a rematch to an old acquaintance: Jorge masvidal.

“We're going to see the 'coolest fighter' against the 'thickest' fighter. Stephen Thompson against Jorge masvidal 2. He's talking about facing Colby covington, but we’ll see,” said Thompson, in an interview after the show.
Thompson and Masvidal met for the first time in 2017. On that occasion, before Jorge achieved stardom by winning the symbolic belt of 'Most Thick in MMA', Stephen beat his rival with a dominant performance, at UFC 217.
The last challenger for the welterweight belt, Masvidal never hid his desire to repeat the confrontation against his compatriot. Before facing Kamaru Usman, fur UFC 251, in July, 'Jesus das Ruas' had already informed that, if he won the title, Thompson would be one of the favorites to defend his belt. Jorge's speech, then, served as a motivational factor for Stephen to suggest the new confrontation.
“I know he was interested if he had beaten Usman. He said he would defend the title against me. I know he wants that victory,” concluded Thompson.
Masvidal, today, is one position above Stephen in the category led by Kamaru Usman. Fourth, 'Jesus das Ruas' has not played since the setback to the champion. A few months ago, the athlete was negotiating to face his former friend and American Top Team teammate, Colby covington. However, there was no agreement between the parties and the duel remains shelved.
