In addition to the great performance on the last card of the year, José Aldo drew attention for another reason in his commitment to the UFC Las Vegas 17. When climbing into the octagon to face Marlon Vera Last Saturday (19), spectators observed that the man from Manaus had what appeared to be a new tattoo on his chest. The curiosity is that the Brazilian did not have the drawing the day before, at the official weigh-in. After the show, it was discovered that it was a sticker referring to the Brazilian Navy.

After the confrontation, the Brazilian was asked about the 'tattoo'. At the press conference, the athlete learned that the action generated curiosity among those who were following the clash. The design, however, may violate the UFC uniform rule, which maintains a contract with a specific brand. The former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg), upon learning of the situation, made a point of apologizing and explained that it was a tribute.
“The truth is I didn't know I needed permission, because it's the Navy seal and I put it in the hotel before coming here (UFC Apex). I warmed up for three hours shirtless. Nobody told me anything. I didn't think it would be a problem, because there is no sponsor. If I caused any discomfort, I apologize,” said Aldo.
After explaining what the drawing on his chest was about, the Brazilian explained what motivated him to pay homage to the Brazilian Navy. According to the man from Manaus, after his last performance in Ultimate, he was able to train with the boxing team and, as a result, learn more about the sport with the military.
“Losing my last fight, we were able to sit down and do new things. That was a new thing, training with the navy boxing team. I fought as if I were one of them,” he said.
Even though he entered with the sticker stuck to his body, the Brazilian ended the confrontation against Marlon Vera without the print. During the fight, due to the close duel, the ink wore off and, at the end of the fight, it was no longer possible to see the seal.
