The former UFC lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), Anthony Pettis, is still in no rush to define its future. In a fight that closed the preliminary card of the UFC Las Vegas 17, last Saturday (19), the North American won alex morono in the unanimous decision of the judges and had the last fight of his contract.

“I think it was a risk to accept this fight and (run the risk of) not signing a contract with the UFC again. Normally I sign (the renewal) two or three fights before. I’m 33 years old and I’ve been with this company for a long time,” said Pettis in the post-event interview.
According to UFC president, Dana White, around 60 fighters will be released by the end of 2020. However, Anthony denies that he came under pressure to renew his contract.
“If I had let that go to my head, I would have fought differently. (…) I earned the right to fight where I am and I can still face the best. I already beat 'the guy' in the main event (Stephen Thompson), so my goal now is to achieve a good winning streak. I love this place and I grew up here, they made me who I am. So I'm just going to take my time, enjoy Christmas and New Year and see what happens in 2021”, he concluded.
After beating Morono, Pettis achieved his second consecutive victory in the UFC. The feat has not been repeated since 2014. At 33 years old, he has a record of 24 wins and ten losses.
