Even retired, Cormier says he continues to be tested by USADA: 'I'm cleaner than Jones'

Former UFC champion, veteran says he continues to take anti-doping tests ‘just for fun’, but does not signal a return to MMA

One of the biggest names in recent MMA history, Daniel Cormier decided to retire after the setback he suffered Stipe Miocic, In August. Former UFC champion, the fighter, however, surprised by stating that he continues to be tested by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) and joked about the situation, provoking his biggest rival, Jon Jones.

“I took myself out of the rankings, but I'm still tested by USADA for fun. I was tested yesterday. Even retired, I'm cleaner than Jon Jones. I will be testing for the rest of my life. (…) I was always clean, I never cheated”, stated the fighter, in an interview with ‘ESPN'.

DC left the sport after losing the rematch against Stipe Miocic, In August. At the time, the athlete was unable to regain his old heavyweight belt (up to 120,2kg) and, shortly after the fight, he admitted that he no longer saw any point in continuing to fight if he didn't have a title at stake. The athlete, however, revealed that, even outside of sport – now working as a commentator – he sees no reason to 'cheat'.

‘Most of the time, guys like me retire and start using some things, which make them feel rejuvenated. I’m living well”, he concluded.

Today, Cormier is 41 years old. With UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight belts on his resume, the fighter left the sport with 26 fights, 22 victories, three defeats and one unsuccessful fight.
