The Cuban Yoel romero is no longer part of the UFC fighter roster. The 43-year-old veteran was ranked 5th in the middleweight rankings (up to 83.9 kg). He terminated his contract with Ultimate with three fights left on his contract.

The news about the end of the agreement was initially released by ESPN in the USA. The Cuban's manager, Malki Kawa, confirmed his athlete's release from the UFC. He stated that he “didn’t expect Romero’s time in the UFC to end like this.” Kawa also revealed that Romero will not retire and is already studying other proposals.

A silver medalist at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in freestyle wrestling and a semi-finalist at the 2004 Athens Games, the Cuban defected from his country in 2007, during a competition in Europe. He debuted in the UFC in 2013 and won his first eight fights, including victories against Lyoto Machida, Chris Weidman e Ronaldo Jacare. He was in five title fights, but the only one he managed to win, against Luke Rockhold, at UFC 221, in February 2018, he did not make weight and was left without the interim middleweight title.
