The weekend will be of great importance for the boxing world. This Saturday (28), Mike Tyson will make his long-awaited return to the ring in an exhibition fight against the popular Roy Jones Jr. However, last-minute news could alter the mood of those expecting an aggressive clash between the stars. In conversation with 'MMA fighting', Andy Foster, executive director of the California Athletic Commission, revealed curious and essential rules for staging the show, which takes place in Los Angeles (USA).

“There are no official judges. The WBC (World Boxing Council) will have some celebrity guest judges. There will be no cumulative score. There will be no winner announced (at the end of the duel). The unofficial slips are for entertainment purposes only and this is done remotely by the WBC, not the commission, because the commission has not accredited these judges because of COVID-19. It’s for entertainment purposes only,” Foster said.

Aware that the news may surprise some fans, who expected to see two great representatives of boxing history, Andy 'played fair'. The director's idea is to make it clear that the meeting between Tyson and Jones will be nothing more than a friendly clash.

“Let’s call it an exhibition (fight). I want the audience to know what it is because I don't want them to be disappointed. As long as they know it's an exhibition, that's fine by everyone. This is a very entertainment-centric thing. It’s not about competition”, he concluded.

The duel between Mike and Roy is scheduled for eight rounds. In addition to the explanations cited by Foster, the match referee is authorized to interrupt the match if one of the athletes suffers a severe cut on the face.

This Saturday, Tyson will come out of boxing retirement after more than 15 years of inactivity. Jones, in turn, will make his return to the ring after almost three years away. Mike, today, is 54 years old, while his opponent is 51.
