St. Pierre forgets super fight against Anderson and defends belt against Nick Diaz at UFC 158

The popular super fight between Anderson Silva, middleweight champion (up to 84 kg.) and Georges St Pierre, owner of the welterweight belt (up to 77 kg.) is temporarily out of the Ultimate plans. The organization responded to the Canadian's request and scheduled his next title defense against Nick Diaz at UFC 158, an event scheduled to take place on March 16, in Montreal.

“There was a lot of talk about who I should fight next, but that was the only option for me. He made it personal, and I can't wait”, said St. Pierre, who complained about several provocations from his rival, who in turn was not intimidated and continued firing at the Canadian.

“This is the fight I want. I want to go there, beat St-Pierre in Montreal and show that I am the best welterweight in the world”, said Diaz.

With the confirmation of GSP's next fight at welterweight, Anderson is expected to return to the Octagon in the first half of next year to defend his reign in the middleweight division.

In the UFC 158 fight program, the future of the GSP category will be defined, including the next challengers. Carlos Condit, former interim champion, faces Rory McDonald, considered a great promise in the category. Already John hendricks, who for many should be the challenger St. Pierre will face Jake ellenberger.
