Deiveson Figueiredo sets deadline to leave flyweight and move up to bantamweight

Champion reveals that he intends to defend the belt four more times before venturing into the top category, because he does not want to suffer against the scale

the reign of Deiveson Figueiredo in flyweight (56,7kg) it has barely started and it already has time to finish. The category champion defended his belt for the second time by submitting Alex Perez in the first round, in the main fight of UFC 255, an event held this Saturday (21), in Las Vegas, USA, and, once again, he expressed his desire to move up to the bantamweight division.

In the post-show press conference, Deiveson stated that the change of category is just a matter of time and he plans for it to happen, after making four more belt defenses.

“I will definitely go up. This idea is strong. I owe a lot to the flyweights and I will defend my belt five times. Four to go,” said Deiveson.

The Brazilian recalled that, despite not having suffered so much this time to make weight, this has always been a problem and, as he gets older, it is even worse to deal with the scale.

“I always have difficulty making weight. I'm going to be 33 and it gets worse and worse. At 35 years old, I want to be free and fight without that need”, he concluded.

The desire to switch from flyweight to bantamweight has always been seen in Deiveson Figueiredo. Before becoming champion of the category, the Brazilian already had this thought and, after winning the belt, after dominating Joseph Benavidez in the second fight, it became even more evident. It is worth remembering that, in the first meeting with the veteran, 'Daico' was unable to make weight.
