Maurício Shogun loses by knockout to Paul Craig and his undefeated streak ends at UFC 255

Brazilian suffers from rival falls, gets tired and ends up overmatched in the first fight on the main card

Bad night for Mauritius Shogun. In the first fight on the main card of UFC 255, held this Saturday (21), in Las Vegas (USA), the Brazilian did poorly and ended up losing the rematch to Paul Craig. Victim of his rival's falls, the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg) ended up getting tired and was defeated by technical knockout in the second round.

The confrontation between Shogun and Craig marked the repeat of a fight that took place in November last year, at UFC Sao Paulo. In an even confrontation, the athletes ended up drawing in Brazil.

With the result, Maurício, 38 years old, ended up having an undefeated series of three fights ended. The Curitiba native has not lost a match since July 2018, when he was beaten by Anthony Smith.

Paul's triumph should place the Scot in 14th place in the category ranking, currently occupied by the Brazilian. With two positive results in a row, Craig now has three wins in his last five fights.

The duel began with the Scot taking the initiative with a low and a high kick. Shogun responded in kind and looked for the best distance to unleash his game. Craig got to the back, but Shogun exploded and ended up reversing the situation, getting on top. The Brazilian started hitting his opponent from top to bottom and tried to recover from the loss, but there was no more time.

In the second round, Craig returned to be more active, with two low kicks. Shogun responded with a series of punches, but Paul was unfazed. The Scot continued to bet on kicks, while the Brazilian tried to enter his opponent's line of action. After being hit with two punches by the Curitiba native, Craig knocked the Curitiba native down again. The Scot got to his back and started looking for the rear naked choke. The Brazilian showed that he had sharp jiu-jitsu and, again, defended himself, getting up afterwards. With two minutes left in the round, the Scot knocked the Brazilian down again and started hitting Shogun with punches. The Brazilian tried to resist his opponent's punches, but ended up giving up.

Welterweight representatives (up to 77kg.), Tim means e Mike Perry gave fans one of the most exciting clashes of the night. In the duel nominated for 'Fight of the Night', Means ended up being superior and won the unanimous decision of the judges.

With the positive result, Tim achieved his second consecutive victory in the organization. A veteran in the sport, the fighter reached the mark of 31 triumphs in his career, which includes 45 commitments in MMA.

With his wife in the corner, Perry, unlike his last performance, will not leave Las Vegas with a triumph. The combatant showed a lot of courage, but ended up falling victim to his opponent's smaller wingspan and accurate blows. Now, the North American has six defeats in the last 10 fights and confirmed his bad phase.

In the second fight of the main card, Katlyn chookagian He didn't put on a show, but he won again in the organization. Against Cynthia calvillo, the former flyweight title challenger (up to 56,7 kg.) dominated her opponent for three rounds and triumphed in the judges' unanimous decision.

Chookagian returned to the Octagon just over a month after his tough defeat to Jessica Andrade. With the result, Katlyn regains her winning ways and once again dreams of a new chance to compete for the division title.

Newly arrived at flyweight, Calvillo was unable to achieve a two-fight winning streak. In her debut in the group, the fighter had overcome Jessica Eye, in June.
