It's nothing new that Bellator has strengthened itself by signing several fighters with good experience in the UFC. There are several examples and the veteran Fabricio Werdum was very close to being announced, but was surprised when he chose to sign with the PFL (Professional Fighters League). However, Scott Coker did not regret the fact that he had 'lost' the former UFC heavyweight (120,2kg) champion.

At the press conference for Bellator 253, an event that will take place this Thursday (19), in the USA, the company president explained that Werdum had different thoughts, wanted a broader contract and was happy to see the Brazilian in the PFL. Coker also stressed that if he had wanted to, he would have hired him.

“Werdum’s goals and desires were different from ours. I'm happy for him. If we wanted him here to face Fedor, we could do that, but that's probably the only fight we're interested in. I think Werdum was looking for a long-term deal with a lot of fights. Bellator is in a different phase, signing free agents, betting on promises and building the new generation. I think Werdum found a better home than he would have here,” Coker said.

In addition to Bellator and PFL, ONE Championship was also interested in having the services of Fabricio Werdum, as he signed a partnership with the company Dominance MMA, of which the Brazilian is part. For the specialized press, Bellator was leading the race to sign 'Vai Cavalo', because the same and Fedor Emelianenko would like to have a rematch. In the first meeting between them, valid for Strikeforce, in 2010, the Brazilian submitted the Russian in the first round, by applying a triangle.
