The career of one of the most popular and charismatic athletes in UFC history is truly coming to an end. After announcing his return to lightweight (up to 70,3kg.) to try to recover from a negative series of four defeats and a draw, Donald Cerrone recognizes that, at 37 years old, he is close to retiring.

“This will be the 'last race'. I don't have much more time. If it's going to be my last race, I'm going to give myself completely. I prefer to retire whenever I want. Go there, fight, enjoy and then leave while I'm floating. Without hurting me or everyone telling me to stop”, said 'Cowboy', on his channel YouTube.
Holding record for UFC victories, Donald doesn't want to leave the sport with the recent record shown in his record. This is the North American's biggest motivation for him to return to training and win in Ultimate again.
“I don’t want to retire like this. I want to win. I'm going to do everything I can to retire this way. If not this way, at least I can tell my kids, 'Man, that's all I had.' But, I don’t think that will be the case,” said Cerrone.
Still without an opponent for his next match, Donald, who is known for his frequent presence in the Octagon, intends to return to action at the beginning of next year. However, anyone who thinks that the end of the year will be a rest period for the 'Cowboy' is mistaken.
“I want to fight next year. We are here, in November, training. I want to get to the point where I'm 80kg, in shape and winning. Now, let's get a fight. I have eight weeks, 12 weeks, whatever. It’s my plan,” she said.
Although he is aware that he is close to hanging up his gloves, Donald's fans – at least at first – can expect a few more performances from the athlete. According to the fighter, his plan is not to leave the sport next year.
“I have two more years. Let’s make these last ones the best,” she concluded.
