"Amanda nunes is out of title defense against Megan anderson No. UFC 256 for unknown reasons”, published the agency.
Aware of the champion's situation, the challenger used social media to lament the Brazilian's absence in one of the most anticipated fights of the year. Anderson would fight for a title for the first time since his UFC debut.
“I wish Amanda a speedy recovery. The UFC is trying to reschedule the fight for next year. The objective remains the same. I’ll be ready,” Anderson wrote.
Against the Australian, Nunes would make her second title defense since becoming champion of Chris Cyborg, in 2018. Amanda performed in the division for the last time in June of this year, when she beat Felícia Spencer, at UFC250, and maintained her position as leader.
In addition to reigning supreme in the under-65,7kg category, the 'Lione' also holds the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2kg), where she has been champion since 2016.
While Amanda hasn't lost in over six years, with a streak of 11 consecutive victories, Anderson wants to prove that she has what it takes to face the Brazilian. The Australian comes from two consecutive victories and her last setback was in May last year, when she lost to Spencer, recently defeated by the 'Lioness'.
