When a fighter announces his retirement from MMA, many fans don't tend to take it seriously, as most of them return to acting. The year 2020 has been marked by farewells to important athletes such as Daniel Cormier, Anderson Silva, Khabib Nurmagomedov e Henry Cejudo and the last three have already considered returning. 'DC' revealed that he had the same idea when Jan Blachowicz, the newest light heavyweight champion (93kg), challenged him right after winning the belt, but thought better of it and turned back.

In an interview with the North American website MMA fighting, 'DC' admitted that he was excited about the possibility of facing the Pole, hinted that he regretted the way he left the category, but laughed at the possibility of returning to the sport.

“I have to be honest. When Blachowicz challenged me, I was willing to fight again. I thought I couldn't retire like this. Obviously every great fighter feels he can win. I gave up the light heavyweight belt. I didn't lose him, there's a new champion and there aren't many big fights on the horizon. Now, Blachowicz can face Adesanya, but before, he didn't have that possibility. It would be Glover or Marreta and those fights are very good, but for him, facing me would be something bigger. I started laughing at the idea of going back to light heavyweight and I'm fine with that. That thought only lasted 15 minutes. I have nothing else to do,” Cormier said.

Currently, the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight (120,2kg) champion works as a commentator, informing that he has already adapted to the new routine and recalled that, in recent years, he has reduced his frequency in the Octagon.

“The transition was fun. For the last few years, I have been preparing for this. I fought three times in 2018, once in 2019 and once in 2020. I was no longer an active fighter. My routine was training, but television obligations were taking up more time”, he concluded.

Daniel Cormier retired in August 2020 and got the worst of the trilogy against Stipe Miocic. However, the North American, who had a great history in wrestling, also had a glorious career in MMA, winning the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix and becoming UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion.
