Whittaker denies Dana White about refusing rematch with Adesanya: 'You didn't understand what I said'

After overcoming Jared Cannonier and win his second fight in 2020, Robert whittaker he was in a calm situation at middleweight (83,9kg), but was surprised by Dana White. The UFC president blamed the New Zealander for refusing the rematch against Israel adesanya and revealed that this was the reason for the super fight against Jan Blachowicz to happen. Upon learning of the positioning, 'The Reaper' explained himself.

In an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie, Whittaker showed dissatisfaction and believes that Dana failed to understand him. The former champion also informed that he never refused to face Adesanya again, he wanted to settle the score and regretted the fact that the episode took such proportions.

“Dana misinterpreted and distorted what I said. It was annoying, but it happens. I'm more confused than angry. She never said she didn't want to face Adesanya. Just that I would like to face him in March or April. If Adesanya becomes light heavyweight champion, I'll go up and fight him. Of course I want to face him! I deserve this fight. I have no control over what the UFC and Adesanya will do, but I'll fight him in any category. I would like communication with the UFC to be simpler, because I am very easy to deal with,” said Whittaker.

The New Zealander remained upset and wants his next fight to be against Adesanya or Blachowicz. If the opponent is the Nigerian, Whittaker knows he will have to make changes to his game.

“The UFC didn’t reach out to me and I’m not even surprised that Adesanya would fight Blachowicz. I understand why the UFC wants this and why Adesanya accepts it. It's hard to say what will happen. I will wait for the winner or loser of this fight. I have a good team and I would certainly have a different strategy for the rematch. I can't go with the same attitude and think I'll get a different result. Adesanya is always a complicated fight, because he has a lot of confidence and is dangerous, but I have tricks up my sleeve”, he concluded.
