Mousasi says he is close to an agreement with UFC and places Shogun as his preferred opponent for his debut

The light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi is close to being signed by the UFC. The fighter, who has had great success in Japanese events in recent years, revealed that negotiations with the largest MMA organization in the world are advanced and the announcement should be made after his fight against Mike Kyle, on January 12th, on the show that should mark the end of Strikeforce, an event in which he also held the light heavyweight belt.

“If everything goes well, I'll go to the UFC. I have a fight coming up soon and I can't say anything yet. They will announce it. The UFC is the biggest organization, so everyone's goal is to be there. The best thing is to go to Ultimate as soon as possible. It’s the biggest and if you can make a name for yourself there, that’s the goal,” Mousasi told the website Full Contact Fighter.

Son of Armenians, Gegard Mousasi Born in Iran and now a naturalized Dutchman, he already has a favorite opponent for his debut: the Brazilian Mauricio Shogun.

    It will be a great signing for the UFC! Mousasi is a very technical, strong and agile guy. He likes to fight, he is a real fighter, he has the spirit of a warrior. He has the baggage to be a champion.
