the paulista Luiz Banha is no longer part of the UFC fighter roster. After two consecutive defeats in the organization, the last being to Chris Camozzi at UFC Rio 3, on the 13th, the Brazilian ended up being cut from the organization. The information was revealed by Alex Davis, the fighter's manager, in an interview with Tatame magazine.
“Although the UFC values his fighting style, they are in a traffic jam. They have more signed athletes than vacancies. They had to cut him now, but they said that, once he returns to a good fight rhythm, they can sign him again. He’s going to keep fighting, I hope to see him back in the UFC soon,” said Davis.
Banha arrived at the UFC in 2007 and right after his debut there was controversy. The Brazilian dominated the fight against James Irwin, but after an irregular knee, the American stated that he was unfit to fight and the São Paulo native ended up disqualified.
Afterwards, Banha scored three consecutive victories over Jason Lambert, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou and Steve Cantwell. The bad phase started with setbacks for Rogério Minotouro and Cyrulle Diabate. There was a sigh of reaction when the Brazilian beat Eliot Marshall, but the São Paulo native lost again in duels against Stanislav Nedkov and, finally, Chris Camozzi, the last two in action at UFC Rio 1 and UFC Rio 3, respectively.
