The mystery surrounding his next opponent Khamzat Shimaev remains unresolved. Dana White has already informed that the Swede will be in the main fight of an event to be held in the United States and revealed that Stephen Thompson was the most popular name to face him, but all that was left to do was combine it with 'Wonderboy'.

To the North American website The Body Lock MMA, Thompson denied the information released by the UFC president, denying any interest in facing the promising welterweight (77,6kg) and explained the reason for his refusal.

“No, I will not fight Chimaev. It just doesn't make sense to me at this point. I'm ranked in the top five and I'm not going to face a fighter who's not in the rankings. I fought with many athletes to get where I am and several athletes did the same to get where they are. I don’t understand why he would take a shortcut to surpass the other fighters,” said Thompson.

Currently in the top-5 of the UFC welterweight division, Stephen Thompson aims to face fighters that bring him closer to competing for the category belt for the third time in his career. In fact, recently, the North American challenged Leon edwards, third place.
